hum……the Wave Bracelet ……how did it all start?
Many years ago, I spent a year traveling overland across Asia -India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Iran - a once in a lifetime adventure. I started in Los Angeles and ended in the Turkish Baths in Istanbul. When I returned home, I had a basketful of new insights. The people I met, during my journey, were wonderful. They had a sense of body adornment that I had never seen before. The women of Southern India especially stand out in my memory, their bangles glistening in the strong sunlight. I decided to study the art of gold and silversmithing when I returned to the States.
I had the good fortune of studying under two American Indian master silversmith, Navajo Phil and Zuni Michael Horse and the European trained goldsmith Alvin Von Hinzman. The Wave Bracelet came from my experiences at that time. There was a very good response. The bracelet was featured in my one-person show at the Los Angeles Craft and Folk Art Museum, and in Vogue, Women's Wear
Daily, Gourmet, and American Craftsmen Magazines.
I made the bracelet for many years and then moved on to focus on my studio work that I continue today as a painter.
Over the last couple of years, several people have checked back with me to see if I was still making my Wave Bracelets. They said they had worn theirs for twenty some years, always loved putting them on, and constantly got great comments on them.
So I recently began training a silversmith here in Los Angeles, California to make my bracelets again. After the initial fabrication, I personally hand finish each Wave Bracelet. Yes, something wonderful, made locally in the USA. by a native Californian!
Thank you for your interest in my bracelet. I hope you enjoy wearing it and feel lovely each time you slip it on your wrist and tell others of its charms,
All the best,
